We sailed out of Manhattan, with two tranquil days at sea on the way to the Caribbean. The ship was beautiful. The service was attentive and kind. And the people we met were wonderful and fun.

Caribbean Princess was a big, floating resort, in both good and bad ways. On the plus side it was an easy, relaxing week with lots of options.

Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas is a massive, awe-inspiring mega-ship. She routinely carries 4,200 guests and has all the bells and whistles: ice rink, rock wall, shopping plaza, water park, and more deck chairs than you can shake a stick at.

We wanted a no-stress get-away. Driving to Long Beach for this week-long cruise, we got exactly that. It wasn't super-fancy, but it was fun, convenient, and pretty cheap.
