Disney Cruise Line Names Second Ship
ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 25, 1996-- Disney Cruise Line announced today that the company has named its second ship, Disney Wonder. The estimated 85,000-ton vessel is scheduled to enter service in November 1998, and will be a sister ship to the Disney Magic, which will be launched in January 1998.
"Our decision to launch both the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder in 1998 demonstrates our belief that there will be a strong consumer demand for our exclusive Disney land/sea vacation experience," said Arthur Rodney, president of Disney Cruise Line.
The Disney cruise vacation will be a seamless, week-long experience where guests can enjoy a three- or four-day stay at a Walt Disney World Resort followed by a three- or four-day cruise. The line's first ship, Disney Magic, will sail round-trip from Port Canaveral, Florida, and will include at least one Bahamian port of call and a day-long stop at Disney's own private island. Specific itinerary plans for the Disney Wonder have not been decided.
Both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are being built at Fincantieri Shipyard in Trieste, Italy. Construction on the Disney Wonder is scheduled to begin in late 1996. The ships will feature a classic exterior design reminiscent of the majestic TransAtlantic ocean liners of the past and will feature the famous Disney characters and a myriad of exclusive Disney shows, entertainment, activities and programming designed specifically for families, honeymooners, adults without children and seniors.
Disney Cruise Line's first brochure will be released in July and the line will begin accepting reservations for the Disney Magic in August.
