Celebrity Cruises Names Third New Ship 'Mercury' Luxury Vessel Is ScheduledFor Delivery In Fall 1997

NEW YORK, Feb. 23 -- MERCURY will be the name of Celebrity
Cruises' newest luxury vessel, it was announced today by the cruise line.
Construction of the 74,000-ton ship has already begun, with delivery planned
for Fall 1997. The introduction of MERCURY, third in the cruise line's new
series of technologically advanced ships, will bring the total capacity of the
Celebrity Cruises fleet to more than 9,000 berths.

"MERCURY joins her sister ships, CENTURY and GALAXY, in a continuing
tradition of luxury and innovative design," stated Richard E. Sasso,
President, Celebrity Cruises. "MERCURY will not only feature Celebrity's
signature AquaSpa(SM), high-technology Celebrity Theatre and an advanced
interactive communications system, but also will provide passengers with the
uncompromising levels of cuisine and service excellence for which Celebrity
has earned its outstanding five-star reputation."

A prominent design team that includes the original contributors to CENTURY
and GALAXY, as well as notable American designers, will create a unique
platform of style and function onboard the ship. Among unique features on
MERCURY will be two atriums, a sliding glass roof over the third swimming
pool, a special teen-age lounge, as well as an indoor/outdoor children's play
area. Over thirty percent of MERCURY's outside cabins will have private
verandas.

The 1,870-passenger ship will be constructed by Joseph L. Meyer GmbH & Co.,
Papenburg, Germany, who also built Celebrity's ZENITH, HORIZON, CENTURY
(launched in December 1995), and GALAXY (to be delivered in December 1996).

"By 1997, Celebrity's fleet will have more than tripled in capacity," stated
Richard E. Sasso. "This impressive growth has allowed Celebrity to expand
into new markets and to diversify itineraries, providing a broader spectrum of
vacation choices for the sophisticated travelers."
