Murphy And Callaway Woods & Irons Win Royal Caribbean Classic
Great Big Bertha Continues Dominance
CARLSBAD, Calif., Feb. 7 -- Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY)
staff professional Bob Murphy, using a Great Big Bertha(TM) Ruger Titanium
Driver and the new and improved Big Bertha(R) Irons, captured the Senior PGA
Tour Royal Caribbean Classic in Key Biscayne, Florida, this past weekend with
a four shot victory. Murphy was the only player to shoot in the sixties in
all three rounds carding 69-67- 67-203, 10 under par. His final round
4-under-par 67 was the lowest of the day and was one of only two rounds under
par for the day. Treacherous gusty winds up to 40 miles per hour decimated the
field sending the final day's scoring average to nearly 2-1/2 strokes over
par.
Over 60% of the professionals at this event used a Callaway Driver and over
60% of those were Great Big Bertha(TM) Titanium Drivers. Furthermore, Callaway
Big Bertha(R) Irons were not only in the winner's circle in Bob Murphy's bag
but they were in 18 other professionals' bags as well making Callaway the #1
Driver, #1 Metal Wood, and the #1 Irons in play at this event.
Callaway Golf Company President Donald Dye said, "To our knowledge this is
the first time that a single company has led the count in the three equipment
categories at any Tour event. And to have Bob Murphy win the event using two
of our newest products just makes it that much more exciting to us."
Murphy, using the new Great Big Bertha(TM) 7.5 degree Titanium Driver for
only his second tournament, credited his accurate driving as a big part of his
success. "Driving the ball well in the wind under pressure is difficult,
especially on a day with gusts like we had. With the Great Big Bertha I had
great control and I am driving it longer than ever," he said. Murphy further
added, "I am also using the new Big Bertha Irons. My feel, distance control
and accuracy are better than ever. I am extremely confident with my
shotmaking using these new clubs."
Murphy won $127,500 for the victory, the ninth of his Senior PGA Tour
career.
