Class Action Lawsuits Filed Against Seven Cruise Lines

NEW YORK---April 23, 1996--Class action lawsuits have been
filed in the State Courts of Florida, California and Washington State against
seven cruise lines: Carnival Cruise Lines Inc., Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.,
Celebrity Cruises Inc., Kloster Cruise Ltd. d/b/a Norwegian Cruise Line,
Holland America Line - Westours Inc., Princess Cruises Inc. and Renaissance
Cruises Inc.

The complaints allege that "port charges" typically increase the advertised
cruise fare by at least $100 to $150 per person; that the cruise lines have
led the public to believe that "port charges" are costs charged to the cruise
lines by governmental authorities both in the U.S. and abroad for the use of
their ports of call; and that "port charges" are then passed through to the
passengers on a pro rata basis. The lawsuits allege that, in fact, the amount
of "port charges" levied on each passenger is substantially higher than the
actual amount levied on the cruise lines by the various port authorities.
This additional revenue is also not subject to the normal commissions paid to
travel agents and therefore flows right to the cruise companies bottom line.

Plaintiffs in this action seek to recover damages on behalf of all persons
who travelled on any of the defendants' cruises within the last four years and
paid "port charges" levied by the cruise lines. The seven cruise lines each
year carry approximately 75 percent of the 4 million U.S. originated cruises
passengers. According to figures obtained by plaintiffs' attorneys,
defendants, have, and continue to collect well over $250 million per year in
"port charges."

The class action lawsuits filed in state courts in Miami (Carnival, Royal
Caribbean, Norwegian and Celebrity); Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (Renaissance); Los
Angeles (Princess) and Seattle (Holland America) each seek nationwide class
action status on behalf of all passengers who traveled on any of the
defendants' cruises within the last four years and paid "port charges" levied
by the cruise lines. The class action complaints filed assert claims for
negligent misrepresentation, unjust enrichment and deceptive business
practices in violation of the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act or the
Washington Consumer Protection Act.
