Willie Brown Proclaims Today `Royal Viking Sun Day' in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 6 -- In a Mayoral Proclamation delivered
earlier this afternoon, San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown declared today "Royal
Viking Sun Day" in San Francisco.
In a luncheon speech aboard Cunard's Royal Viking Sun, the Mayor noted that
San Francisco and Royal Viking Sun share a rare sense of style and elegance
that are hallmarks of both the City and the Cunard fleet of luxury cruise
ships. Brown and Royal Viking Sun Captain Halle Gundersen addressed a group
of assembled passengers and reporters in the ship's main dining room at a
luncheon this afternoon.
The luncheon celebrated the launch of the ship on her 1997 World Cruise. The
debarkation on this passage marks the 75th Anniversary of Cunard's World
Cruises. The 99-day voyage will carry passengers around the world to 27 ports
of call culminating in Fort Lauderdale in April.
Royal Viking Sun earned the highest ratings among more than 200 cruise ships
in the 1997 Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships, an honor that
she has held since 1990. The Guide rates vessels on appearance, cleanliness,
space, comfort, decor, cuisine, beverages, service, accommodations,
itineraries, shore programs, entertainment, activities, staff, officers,
fitness facilities, value for money and the overall cruise experience.
