Princess Cruises 'Pop The Question' Survey Reveals Which CelebrityCouple Should Tie the Knot in 1997
Plus, A Look at the Proposal Trends Lead by Generation X-ers
Celebrity I Do's?: Princess Cruises' "Pop the Question" survey of 527 men
and women conducted by Louis Harris found that Oprah Winfrey and Stedman
Graham topped the list of celebrities who respondents wished would tie the
knot in 1997 (as voted by 29 percent of respondents), followed by Goldie Hawn
and Kurt Russell (24 percent), Brooke Shields and Andre Agassi (12 percent),
Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt (5 percent), Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins (4
percent), Madonna and Carlos Leon (2 percent).
X-er Love Moves: With stories of scuba diving, pumpkins and clowns,
Generation X-ers are putting more creative spins on marriage proposals than
thirty- and forty-somethings. Princess Cruises' "Pop the Question" survey
found that 21 percent of those 18-29 reported "creative or dramatic" proposals
versus 16 percent of those aged 30-49; 9 percent aged 50-64; and 7 percent
aged 65 and older.
Overjoyed Over Love: Schoolteacher Matthew Sckalor of Seaford, Long Island
got the thumbs up from Stevie Wonder and other celebrities who helped him
convince Denise Buonpastore to marry him. In addition to Wonder who signed
the statement, "Matt would be 'overjoyed' if you would be his wife" with his
thumbprints, Denise received letters from John Travolta, Nicolas Cage, Joe
Pesci and Mary Higgins Clark. The couple, who then won Princess Cruises' "Pop
the Question" contest, will take a seven-day Caribbean cruise.
