QE2 to Help NBC'S "Single Guy" Propose
NEW YORK, Feb. 13, 1997 -- In an unusual publicity move, Cunard is cross-promoting with NBC's television program. Jonathan Silverman, star of NBC's "The Single Guy" will propose to his girlfriend on the QE2.
According to Cunard, Silverman and his long-time girlfriend, country-pop singer Anna Lee Fery, will celebrate the event on May 9 when Silverman's hit TV show goes on hiatus. Timed to coincide with Valentine's Day, the cruise tickets will be presented to Anna Lee on February 14,
Cunard's press release describes Jonathan and Anna Lee as a couple who...
join a growing list of celebrity lovebirds who, in the tradition of the great lovers and frequent QE2 passengers Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, take to the sea for romance onboard Cunard ships. Other regular Cunard travelers include singer Rod Stewart and his wife, model Rachel Hunter, who often travel between England and New York onboard QE2 and actor Ernest Borgnine and his wife, Tova, who favor the Sea Goddess super yachts. Even love guru Dr. Ruth Westheimer and her husband, Manfred, recommend romance at sea with Cunard."
Silverman's gift to Fery is a three-day weekend cruise to the waters near Bermuda. QE2 will depart New York City on Friday afternoon, May 9, and return to New York City on Monday morning, May 12. For those who wish to follow their lead, fares begin at $510 per person, double occupancy.
While Jonathan and Anna Lee will celebrate a belated Valentine's Day, those onboard QE2 on February 14 will spend their night of romance sailing along Australia's Great Barrier Reef, as part of her 103-day world cruise, listening to the music of Marvin Hamlisch and dancing the night away at QE2's glamorous, black-tie St. Valentine's Day Ball.
