Carnival Corporation Announces Senior Management Changes At HollandAmerica Line-Westours Inc.
MIAMI, March 10 -- Micky Arison, chairman and chief executive
officer of Carnival Corporation (NYSE: CCL), today announced a management
reorganization of its subsidiary, Holland America Line-Westours Inc., based in
Seattle.
A. Kirk Lanterman has been appointed to the position of chairman of the
board and chief executive officer for Holland America Line-Westours Inc.
effective immediately. He was previously president and CEO. In this new
capacity, he will be responsible for the overall direction of Holland America
Line-Westours Inc. and will continue to report to Micky Arison. Lanterman, a
cruise and travel industry veteran, has presided over the increasing success
of Holland America Line-Westours Inc. for the past 14 years.
Additionally, Peter T. McHugh has been appointed president and chief
operating officer for Holland America Line-Westours Inc. McHugh will report
to Lanterman and assume day-to-day responsibilities for all marketing, sales
and operational activities. For the past year, McHugh has been executive vice
president of Holland America Line-Westours Inc., and prior to that has held
senior positions with Pan Am and TWA.
Arison emphasized that these appointments were directed at ensuring senior
management continuity at Holland America Line-Westours Inc. in the face of the
eventual retirement of Lanterman.
"We are extremely fortunate that Kirk is willing to continue an active role
in Holland America Line-Westours," said Arison, "and we're also fortunate to
have an executive of Peter's caliber to manage the day-to-day operations. This
team combined for an extremely successful 1996, and I am confident that they
will continue to excel in 1997 and beyond."
