UPS Announces Contracts For Passenger Charters

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 10 -- United Parcel Service today
announced that it has signed contracts with five companies, cruise lines and
large tour operators, for passenger charter flights on the company's five
specially modified 113-seat B-727-100 aircraft. UPS inaugurated its charter
passenger service March 7 with a flight from Pittsburgh to Orlando. Charter
service to and from other vacation destinations begins March 15.

Operators signing contracts are Celebrity Cruises, Inc., Royal Caribbean
Cruises LTD. (NYSE: RCL), Royal Travel Service, Inc., Trans National Travel
(TNT) Vacations, and Vacation Express, Inc. Flights will originate in
Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Cincinnati, Orlando and Tampa.
Destinations include Aruba; Cancun, Mexico; Orlando; and San Juan, Puerto
Rico. UPS does not sell tickets for passage on UPS aircraft directly to
individuals. Rather, passage on UPS aircraft is provided by the tour operator
or cruise line as part of a total vacation package.

"We're pleased with the success we've had in marketing our passenger charter
service," said Tom Weidemeyer, president of UPS Airlines. "Weekend charters
occupy a small niche in the aviation marketplace but we believe this niche
constitutes a great opportunity for UPS to better utilize its aircraft
assets." Cruise and tour operators typically hire charter aircraft to move
vacationers between selected cities over the weekend when many UPS cargo
planes are unused.

Because UPS' B-727-100 freighters have the same windows, pressurization and
air conditioning systems found on passenger airplanes, they can be converted
with a quick-change kit to charter use in four hours or less. The interiors
of the modified aircraft provide all the comforts of a dedicated passenger
jet, with more leg room than most coach-class configurations. The UPS
aircraft feature new-generation passenger seats, overhead compartments,
restrooms and galleys. Passengers can expect premium-level cabin service and
meals.

Currently, 100 percent of UPS' fleet of 197 jet aircraft meets federal Stage
3 noise standards. UPS Airlines is the first major airline in North America
to reach 100 percent Stage 3 compliance -- a milestone achieved three years
ahead of the FAA mandated deadline.

UPS, the world's largest package distribution company and sponsor of the
1998 and 2000 Olympic Games, employs more than 339,000 people worldwide, and
provides services to more than 200 countries and territories. UPS' revenues
for 1996 exceeded $22 billion on volume of more than 3.1 billion packages.
