Former US Environmental Protection Agency Administrator To Oversee RoyalCaribbean's Environmental Activities
MIAMI, Jan. 14 -- William K. Reilly, former Administrator of
the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has agreed to work with Royal
Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (NYSE: RCL) overseeing the company's wide-ranging
environmental operations and research efforts. He also will join the board of
directors of Royal Caribbean. Additionally, Reilly has been appointed to the
grants committee of the company's Ocean Fund, an organization supporting
marine conservation and oceanic environmental research.
Reilly, currently president and CEO of Aqua International Partners, an
investment group financing water purification in developing countries, was the
seventh EPA Administrator, serving from 1989 to 1993. Under his
administration, the EPA concentrated on protection and restoration of natural
systems, preventing pollution and aggressively enforcing environmental laws.

During the two decades prior to his term as EPA Administrator, Reilly served
as president of the World Wildlife Fund and of The Conservation Foundation.
He was executive director of the Rockefeller Task Force on Land Use and Urban
Growth and served as senior staff member of the President's Council on
Environmental Quality. He was also associate director of the Urban Policy
Center and the National Urban Coalition. Additionally, he was chairman of the
Natural Resources Council of America, an association of all major conservation
groups.
Reilly currently serves on the boards of DuPont and Evergreen Holdings and
is a member of the International Advisory Board of Lafarge. In the non-profit
sector, he is chairman of the boards of American Farmland Trust and the
Environment Education Training Institute of North America, as well as serving
on the boards of trustees National Geographic Society, World Wildlife Fund and
the Yale University Corporation. By appointment of the President, he serves
as a trustee of the Presidio Trust, responsible for running the Presidio
National Park of San Francisco.
Reilly is an alumnus of Yale University and holds a law degree from Harvard,
plus a master's degree in urban planning from Columbia University. Born in
Illinois, he and his wife Libbie have two daughters, one an environmental
lawyer in San Francisco, the other a Fulbright Scholar at Hong Kong
University.
Royal Caribbean is a global cruise company operating two cruise brands,
Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises. The brands' combined
fleet consists of 16 vessels in service and three ships on order, representing
a total capacity of nearly 38,000 berths by the year 2000. The ships
currently visit Alaska, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe,
Hawaii, Mexico, New England, the Panama Canal and Scandinavia.
