Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises Announce 'Cruise ForLife' Consumer Sweepstakes
MIAMI, Jan. 16 -- Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity
Cruises, which recently merged to form one of the largest vacation companies
in the world, have announced "Cruise for Life," a major consumer sweepstakes
that gives people across the country a chance to win a lifetime of vacation
pampering. The sweepstakes is being introduced as part of a major marketing
initiative, in conjunction with the company's title sponsorship of the Super
Bowl XXXII halftime show.
"With more than 138 million viewers in the United States alone, and another
750 million worldwide, the Super Bowl offers a world-class stage from which
Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises can tell the message of an expanded,
world-class vacation company," said Jack Williams, president of Royal
Caribbean.
The sweepstakes is intended to be the first major joint consumer promotion
for the company's two cruise brands: Royal Caribbean International and
Celebrity Cruises. It is being promoted in USA Today, and on the Internet
through an aggressive media buy, which includes more than 16 search engines
and travel-related online media. A new website dedicated exclusively to the
sweepstakes (www.cruiseforlife.com) is linked to the Royal Caribbean and
Celebrity Cruises websites (www.royalcaribbean.com
and
www.celebrity-cruises.com, respectively).
Within the first 15 days that the sweepstakes site has been active, more
than 59,000 people have registered online.
"We are very excited about this sweepstakes, and the opportunities the title
sponsorship of this year's Super Bowl present to us," said Richard Sasso,
president of Celebrity Cruises. "This forum is amazing in terms of the size
and scope of audience we will reach within the course of a few hours," he
concluded.
The "Cruise for Life" sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the United
States*, ages 18 years and older. Entrants are eligible to win 15 cruises for
the winner and a guest aboard any ships in the Royal Caribbean or Celebrity
fleets.
Consumers can enter the "Cruise for Life" sweepstakes through its Internet
website (www.cruiseforlife.com), or by mailing a postcard to "Cruise for Life,
P.O. Box 2007, Ojai, CA 93024. Contestants should include their name, e-mail
address, street address, and daytime and evening telephone numbers. Fax
entries are also accepted at 1-805-640-0151. No purchase is necessary and
entries must be received by January 31, 1998.
The Grand Prizewinner will be selected in a random drawing and announced on
Feb. 28, 1998.
The "Cruise for Life" sweepstakes is part of an overall marketing campaign
by the two cruise lines to promote cruising as a vacation alternative,
particularly to people who have never taken a cruise vacation. In addition to
the sweepstakes, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity will debut new 30-second
television advertisements leading into and out of the Super Bowl halftime
show.
