Norwegian Cruise Line Offers Hockey And Hoops With Pro Players On TwoTexaribbean Cruises
HOUSTON, June 11 -- Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has announced
two special sports cruises to be held this year aboard M/S Norwegian Star for
its "Texaribbean" cruises to the Western Caribbean. The Norwegian Star
departs each Sunday from the Port of Houston on seven-day voyages calling on
Calica and Cozumel, Mexico, and Roaton, Bay Islands, Honduras. The 800-guest
ship will host NCL's Pro Hockey Cruise the week of June 28, 1998 and Pro
Basketball Cruise the week of July 26, 1998.
The Pro Hockey cruise will feature current NHL and IHL stars aboard the
Norwegian Star. Houston Aero David "Moose" Morissette will be joined by John
Druce of the Philadelphia Flyers; Brad May, Vancouver Canucks; Hall of Famer
Marcel Dionne; Chris O'Sullivan of the Calgary Flames; Karyn Bye, U. S.
Olympic Gold Medalist; Jim Craig, U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist from the 1980
team and many more. NHL referee Charlie Banfield will participate in clinics
on hockey, as will Darren Pang of ESPN and CBS sports and Sam Rosen of "Coast-
To-Coast with James Brown." Activities planned for the week-long cruise
include: a four-on-four passenger hockey tournament and slap shot contest out
on deck; Pro Hockey workout; video presentations; autograph sessions; a sports
trivia contest; shipboard taping of the "Coast to Coast with James Brown"
radio sports show; Question and Answer sessions and NHL Hall of Fame
presentation.
The Basketball cruise will feature several Hall of Famers including Elvin
Hayes, Rick Barry, Earl "the Pearl" Monroe and Artis Gilmore. Current NBA
players will include Drew Barry, Atlanta Hawks; Jermaine O'Neal, Portland
Trailblazers; Jaren Jackson, San Antonio Spurs and Greg Foster of the Utah
Jazz. Activities schedules during the cruise include: a three-on-three
basketball tournament and three-point shoot-out on the deck of the Norwegian
Star's basketball court; Eastern and Western Conference players' Question and
Answer sessions; a sports trivia contest and an autograph session. Other
activities include a Basketball Hall of Fame presentation and taping of the
"Coast to Coast with James Brown" national sports radio show.
