Celebrity Cruises' Mercury And Galaxy Return To Explore Alaska's InsidePassage And Glacier Routes In 1999
MIAMI, July 2 -- Celebrity Cruises' Five-Star sister ships
Mercury and Galaxy will sail a total of 37 Alaskan and Pacific Coastal cruises
from May through September 1999. Offering scenic itineraries ranging from
seven to 12 nights, the 77,713-ton, 1,870-guest ships will call in Alaska's
Glacier Bay 17 times and at Hubbard Glacier 20 times.
Mercury's 1999 Alaska Program
Mercury once again joins Galaxy in Alaska sailing 14 seven-night Hubbard
Glacier Route cruises, one seven-night Inside Passage cruise, and two Pacific
Coastal cruises.
Departing on Fridays, Mercury will sail seven-night Glacier Route cruises,
featuring one-way, north or southbound itineraries between Vancouver and
Seward. Mercury's northbound itinerary departs from Vancouver on May 28; June
11, 25; July 9, 23; and Aug. 6, and 20, 1999, and visits the Inside Passage,
Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Hubbard Glacier, Valdez, and College Fjord before
reaching Seward. The southbound cruises departing June 4; June 18; July 2,
16, 30; and Aug. 13, and 27, 1999, originate in Seward and visit Hubbard
Glacier, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka, Ketchikan, and the Inside Passage before
arriving in Vancouver.
Mercury's seven-night Inside Passage itinerary will sail round trip on
Friday, Sept. 3, from Vancouver. Mercury will cruise through the Inside
Passage, with visits to Glacier Bay, Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan.
On May 17, Mercury sails along the West Coast from Los Angeles to Vancouver
on an 11-night Pacific Coastal cruise visiting San Francisco, Victoria,
British Columbia; Sitka, Glacier Bay, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and the
Inside Passage.
Mercury completes her Alaska season departing Vancouver for Los Angeles on
Sept. 10, with an 11-night Pacific Coastal through the Inside Passage, and
visiting Ketchikan, Skagway, Glacier Bay, Juneau, Sitka and Victoria, and
ending with an overnight call in San Francisco.
Galaxy's 1999 Alaska Program
Celebrity's Galaxy returns to Alaska for her third consecutive year from May
through September 1999, sailing two Pacific Coastal cruises and 18 seven-
night Inside Passage itineraries. On May 9, Galaxy will embark on a 12-night
Pacific Coastal cruise from Los Angeles to Vancouver, visiting San Francisco,
Gray's Harbor in Washington, Victoria, Sitka, Juneau, Glacier Bay, Skagway,
Ketchikan, and the Inside Passage, arriving in Vancouver on May 21.
Galaxy's seven-night Inside Passage cruises sail round trip from Vancouver
and depart on Fridays. Her Inside Passage cruises visit Glacier Bay, Skagway,
Juneau, and Ketchikan on May 21, 28; June 4; Aug. 13; and Sept. 10. Cruises
through the Inside Passage on June 11, 18, 25; Aug. 6, 20; and Sept. 3 and 17,
add a call at Haines.
Galaxy's other popular seven-night Inside Passage itinerary, with Hubbard
Glacier visits, calls at Juneau, Skagway, Haines, and Ketchikan. Galaxy sails
this itinerary on July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; and Aug. 27.
Galaxy's final Alaskan voyage will depart Sept. 24, sailing from Vancouver
to Los Angeles through the Inside Passage, visiting Ketchikan, Skagway,
Glacier Bay, Juneau, Sitka, Victoria, and San Francisco, arriving in Los
Angeles Oct. 6.
Celebrity's Alaskan Experience
Guests on Mercury and Galaxy will feast on fine food and enjoy spectacular
views on their Alaskan travels. Three-star Michelin restaurateur and Master
Chef Michel Roux has created memorable Pacific Northwest cuisine. Both ships
feature observation lounges with telescopes and 14 feet-high, floor-to-ceiling
windows, deck areas with a retractable, sliding glass "magrodome" sunroof, as
well as 220 suites with private balconies.
Celebrity Cruises is owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., a global cruise
company, which also operates Royal Caribbean International. The two brands'
combined fleet consists of 17 vessels in service with a capacity of over
31,000 berths. Six ships are on order, for an additional capacity of 15,200
berths. The ships currently visit Alaska, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, the
Caribbean, Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, New England, the Panama Canal and
Scandinavia.
