Carnival's Smoke-Free Paradise Arrives At New York City
November 13, 1998
WHAT: The world's first completely smoke-free cruise ship, Carnival
Cruise Lines' 70,000-ton, 2,040-passenger MS Paradise arrives at
New York City Passenger Ship Terminal.
Combined with Carnival's industry-leading on-board health and fitness
programs and heart-healthy cuisine, Paradise represents a new vacation
alternative for non-smokers and people who are sensitive or allergic to
tobacco smoke. The ship even carries large international no-smoking symbols on
its superstructure and stern.
The creation of a smoke-free cruise ship follows the line's decision several
years ago to ban smoking in all of its on-board restaurants and main show
lounges in response to guest preferences. Recent surveys revealed that nearly
75 percent of Carnival's guests do not smoke, and more than 700,000 guests
used the line's on-board spas and gyms while on a cruise vacation last year.
The Paradise's on-board amenities include 10 bars and lounges, complimentary
24-hour room service and 24-hour pizzeria, Las Vegas- style entertainment,
casino gambling, three swimming pools, duty-free shopping and some of the
largest staterooms in contemporary cruising. The ship also features a
12,000-square-foot health and fitness facility and a Camp Carnival children's
program.
Paradise will enter year-round service from Miami Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, on
alternating seven-day eastern and western Caribbean itineraries.
WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998. The ship is scheduled to sail under the
Verazzano Narrows Bridge at approximately 2:30, reach the Statue
of Liberty at approximately 3:00, and be dockside at approximately
4:00.
WHERE: New York City Passenger Ship Terminal, Pier 88
