Carnival Triumph Sets Record For Most Passengers On A Single Voyage
MIAMI, Aug. 23 -- Less than a month after entering service,
Carnival Cruise Lines' new 102,000-ton Carnival Triumph is already making
history, carrying a record 3,413 passengers on its Aug. 22 cruise from New
York to eastern Canada -- the most ever on a single voyage.
The record eclipses the previous mark of 3,315 passengers set by the
Carnival Destiny in March 1997, which earned that vessel and the company a
spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.
"Carnival has earned its distinction as the most popular cruise line in the
world by providing a quality, fun vacation at an affordable price and the
Carnival Triumph epitomizes this philosophy, offering a stimulating on-board
atmosphere along with an unparalleled diversity of dining, entertainment and
activity options," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president.
While on board Carnival's largest "Fun Ship," the 3,413 guests are enjoying
the Carnival Triumph's numerous dining options, including two full- service
main dining rooms, complimentary 24-hour stateroom service and a two- level
casual eatery featuring a New York-style deli, an Asian specialty area and a
24-hour pizzeria. During the course of the four-day cruise, the different
dining venues are expected to serve upwards of 12,500 shrimp, 1,140 pounds of
lobster, 1,700 bagels, 15,000 soft drinks, 1,025 pounds of coffee, 3,800
hamburgers, 2,900 hot dogs, 3,400 pounds of chicken, 1,600 pounds of prime rib
and 2,900 pizzas.
The guests, who are being served by 1,101 crew, are also enjoying the ship's
wide variety of entertainment venues, including a two-level dance club, a
sports bar, a wine bar, an intimate live music venue and a 1,500-seat show
lounge housing two new original Las Vegas-style productions. Also featured
are four swimming pools -- one with a 214-foot-long twisting, turning water
slide -- seven whirlpools, a 15,000-square-foot health spa, a portrait studio,
a duty-free shopping mall and a 1,300-square-foot children's play area, part
of the ship's complimentary "Camp Carnival" program.
The Carnival Triumph began its inaugural program of four- and five-day
eastern Canada cruises from New York July 27 and will continue this schedule
through Oct. 11. Four-day cruises call at Halifax, Nova Scotia, while five-
day voyages visit both Halifax and Saint John, New Brunswick. The ship will
then reposition to Miami to operate a year-round program of seven-day cruises,
alternating weekly to the eastern and western Caribbean, beginning Oct. 23.
