Silversea Cruises' Ultra-Luxury Silver Cloud To Be Only Cruise Ship AtAmerica's Cup
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 24 -- The ultra-luxury, award-
winning Silver Cloud will be the only cruise ship joining the expected 2,000-
plus private yachts positioned on the start-finish line of the America's Cup
Race later this week.
As the colorful billowing sails of the world's most technologically
sophisticated yachts fill the Hauraki Gulf, the 250 guests aboard Silver Cloud
will have an impressive front row seat to witness the final races for the
world's oldest sporting trophy.
The elegant, 16,800 grt, all-suite Silver Cloud will be in Auckland on
February 26, 27 and 29 for races 5, 6, and 7 of the America's Cup. A police
motorboat escort will accompany Silver Cloud to its mooring just off the
regatta's course. In addition to the spectacular views of the race from the
ship's decks (or from the private balcony on each guest suite), the ship will
have five large screen TV screens onboard with a live ESPN feed of the race.
Silver Cloud's two New Zealand cruises featuring the America's Cup have been
among the most popular of any of the ship's international itineraries. Guests
traveling on either the 12-day Auckland to Auckland (February 13-28) cruise,
or the 14-day Auckland to Sydney (February 28-March 13) itinerary, paid an
average of $850 per person, per day without hesitation because they appreciate
the line's impeccable service, attention to detail, and its ability to truly
bring a destination to life with specially and elegantly crafted events.
Exclusive events at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, home of the
America's Cup since 1995, and at the Mansion House and gardens on Kawau Island
just north of Auckland, will be hosted for Silver Cloud guests. The ship's
Captain and senior officers will in turn welcome New Zealand's highest-ranking
dignitaries and VIPs for lunches and dinners aboard the luxurious ship.
Prior to the races, guests will attend an exclusive champagne reception at
the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS), a venerable 137-year-old
institution normally reserved for its own members and visiting yacht club
members from around the world. Welcomed by the RNZYS's highest-ranking
official, Commodore Peter Kingston, guests will explore the yacht club's
hallowed halls, viewing the America's Cup itself, as well as trophies from
every major yachting competition.
After the races, Silver Cloud will reposition to Kawau Island. Nestled in
the deep blue waters off the Hauraki Gulf, Kawau Island is mostly privately
owned with a number of conservation reserves. The island became famous as the
home of New Zealand Governor and statesman Sir George Grey. His former home,
the Mansion House, and its extensive exotic gardens is the site for an evening
cocktail reception and Maori Concert.
Silversea's passion for excellence is found in the sumptuous luxury aboard
its award-winning ships. The complimentary, free-flowing house champagne is
Moet & Chandon. Linens are Frette. Bath amenities are Bvlgari. Turn-down
chocolates are Godiva. Tables are set with Christofle silver and Schott-
Zwiesel crystal, and menus are infused with culinary creations from the
prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Academy. Worldwide itineraries are brought to life
with enrichment programs featuring opera, golf, and lecturers from National
Geographic. And the intimate ships of the Silversea fleet are home to the
world's only Bvlgari boutiques at sea.
Consistently awarded the distinction of world's best small ship cruise line
by discerning magazines and authoritative guidebooks, Silversea's all-
inclusive, value-priced air/sea fares are the most comprehensive in the
industry and feature: all suite accommodations, most with a private veranda;
roundtrip airfare with upgrades to Business Class available; deluxe pre-cruise
hotel accommodations; all gratuities; all beverages including select wines and
spirits; all port charges; all transfers and porterage; and The Silversea
Experience, a special shoreside event on select sailings.
