Cunard Ships 2002 QE2 World Cruise Brochure
MIAMI, Oct. 30, 2000 -- Cunard Line has released a full-color
brochure highlighting the 2002 World Cruise of its flagship Queen Elizabeth 2.
The 45-page brochure contains full details of the liner's 108-day journey
departing January 7, 2002, from New York westward around the globe to Fort
Lauderdale, where she arrives April 26, 2002. Being titled "Voyage of
Exploration," the 2002 version of the liner's annual maritime pilgrimage
retraces the sea routes of great explorers and discoverers of the past. For
those who wish to be a part of history, but are not prepared to spend a whole
season on board, published segments of between 6 to 106 days' duration are
also available.
"A true Around the World Cruise is the dream of a lifetime for many
travelers," said Larry Pimentel, CTC, Cunard Line's President and CEO. "For
others, including several hundred QE2 aficionados, it is an annual
celebration. But for newcomers and veterans alike, no other travel experience
compares with being a part of this gala social season at sea."
The 2002 route balances languorous days at sea with exciting overnight stays
in six of the 35 ports of call. After transiting the Panama Canal, the
five-star liner samples the Mexican Riviera, California, Hawaii and French
Polynesia enroute to New Zealand and Australia. Then, sailing up Australia's
west coast, QE2 visits Adelaide and Perth before re-entering the tropics to
visit breathtaking Bali. The Philippines, Japan, Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangkok
and Singapore complete the Asian elements of the cruise. Cochin and Mumbai,
India are Indian Ocean stops on the way to the ravishing Seychelles Islands
and Mauritius. Durban and Cape Town are next, followed by a bevy of islands,
including St. Helena, Tenerife and Madeira. The last leg of the journey is
the traditional crossing from the liner's home port of Southampton, England to
New York and onward to Fort Lauderdale.
Adventures Ashore
Enhancing the journey are unique and exclusive shore excursions designed
specifically for the QE2 World Cruise, such as four-wheel drive or helicopter
excursions in Tahiti; river-rafting in Bali; a visit by bullet-train to the
shogun palaces of Kyoto in Japan and African wildlife viewing in Natal.
Fascinating overland options explore historic and cultural attractions further
afield from the ship: China's astounding Terra Cotta Warriors of Xi'An; the
incomparable Taj Mahal at Agra, India and more.
The brochure also outlines a range of selected segments, or interested
travelers can design their own segments to encompass a preferred region of the
world.
"A City At Sea"
Cunard's flagship has sometimes been called a "City at Sea." Indeed, the
great liner has all the amenities and features required for an extended voyage
such as a World Cruise. A European-styled Spa and sauna; gymnasium; casino; a
cinema and proscenium theatre; Computer Learning Centre; the largest Library
afloat, complete with two staff librarians; a florist; golf driving range and
putting area and the last true ballroom at sea. One of the most complete
medical facilities on any ship stands ready for emergencies. There is even a
kennel, a nursery and an automobile garage on board. Guests will also enjoy
the unique Heritage Trail aboard, retracing by means of artworks and other
memorabilia the history of great liners of the past. Cuisine is highly rated
throughout the ship, and especially in the exclusive Grills: Princess and
Britannia Grill and Queens Grill, which is the highest-ranked restaurant at
sea. Menus are programmed to provide variety throughout the three-month
voyage. And Cunard's White Star Service(TM) is the justifiably proud heir to
the company's 160-year British tradition.
All entertainment on the entire cruise is programmed for constant variety,
as well. And a seemingly tireless round of gala events, themed balls and
parties makes this the longest and liveliest soiree of the season. For any
single women traveling alone, a brigade of gallant Gentlemen Hosts(R) assures
that no one misses out on a dance or a place in the social whirl.
Fares and Savings
Fares for the full 108-day World Cruise range from $19,626 to $299,882 per
