Carnival Breaks One-Week Reservations Record Two Weeks In a Row
MIAMI, Jan. 21, 2002 -- So far in January Carnival Cruise Lines has twice set new one-week reservations records. January 7-13, 2002 the cruise line booked 140,392 individual guests, surpassing the previous one-week record set January 22-28, 2001 when 133,555 guests booked Carnival cruises.
A new record was again established this past week, January 14-20, when the company booked 144,342 people.
"Consumers are recognizing current price levels, combined with all the stunning, technologically-advanced new ships in service, creates a value equation that can't be found in any other vacation sector," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president.
"We are particularly encouraged that some of the booking activity we're seeing is for sailing dates well into the latter part of the year," Dickinson stated.
In response to the heavy reservations volume, last Thursday the cruise line modified the hours of operation for its two individual reservations call centers to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Carnival Cruise Lines, a unit of Carnival Corporation (NYSE: CCL), is the largest and most popular cruise line in the world with 16 "Fun Ships" operating voyages from two to 17 days in length to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, New England, Panama Canal, Bermuda, eastern Canada and Europe. The company has five new ships at an estimated value of $2.2 billion scheduled for delivery over the next three years.
