Empress of the North Repairs Complete Following Alaska Accident
PORTLAND, Ore., July 6, 2007 -- Majestic America Line's Empress of the North left Vigor Marine's shipyard today following successful dry dock repairs of damage incurred during an accident in May. The riverboat-style ship hit a charted rock in the Inland Passage of Alaska, causing extensive damage.
"Majestic America Line was very diligent in their approach to the repair plan," stated Rene Doiron, Vice President for Vigor Industrial. "The extent of their on-site management's involvement in the project is a strong demonstration of their dedication to safe vessel operations."
The work package for the dry docking included steel repairs, hull coating, and general inspections. Vigor Marine was able to complete the steel renewals four days ahead of schedule without incident or injury.
"Vigor Industrial has been an excellent partner helping to ensure the safe return of the Empress of the North back into service," said David A. Giersdorf, President, Majestic America Line. "Vigor's team of experts went the extra mile to complete this important project on time and when it comes to their quality of work, they clearly hold themselves to the highest standards."
Vigor Marine's management is committed to putting safety first on all projects. This focus allowed the company to complete the Empress of the North repairs with a perfect safety record.
"Safety is our first thought and our first priority at Vigor Marine," Doiron continued, "Our workforce understands that the top priority is their well-being. Company-wide, we plan our jobs to minimize employee risk."
