Pride of Hawaii Leaves for Europe

MIAMI -- Feb 4, 2008 -- Pride of Hawaii will end its weekly inter-island service in Hawaii Monday and will leave for new assignment in Europe, where she will be re-named Norwegian Jade.

NCL America's 2,400-passenger ship was redirected to Europe because of the company's $131 million loss in 2006. NCL cited the Hawaii market for its problems.

The ship's departure has the potential to cut Hawaii's cruise ship passenger arrivals by about 140,000 a year, though overall Hawaii cruises are booming: About 500,000 people cruised in Hawaii in 2007, up 21 percent from 2006.

NCL's Pride of Aloha and the Pride of America will both remain in Hawaii service.
