Small Fire Aboard Grand Princess, Quickly Controled by Crew

OCHO RIOS, St Ann, April 04, 2008 - The Jamaica Observer and Jamaica Gleaner reported Tuesday that a small kitchen fire broke out aboard the Grand Princess, shortly after the ship left Ocho Rios. No one was injured.

"It was an oven fire, the staff captain said, but they're okay," Ocho Rios pier manager, Dennis Richards, told the Observer last night.

According to the Observer, the area's one fire boat is out of service. As a result, firefighters from the Ocho Rios, Brown's Town and Falmouth fire stations were taken out to sea by a coast guard vessel from the Discovery Bay station. However, by the time they arrived, there was no fire.

During this incident, the vessel stopped for about half an hour, and then resumed its journey to the Cayman Islands.
