HAL Introduces Private Cabanas (for a price)

June 29, 2008 - Want to enjoy the sun deck from your own private plush lounger, tented to protect you from the sun and provide privacy? Holland America Line thinks some people do, and has introduced private cabanas on its latest ship, the m.s. Eurodam.

The cabanas cost extra. (Can you imagine how people would fight for them if they were free?) Here's the breakdown of price:

  • Retreat cabanas (up on the more secluded Observation deck) $45 on port days, $75 on sea days
  • Lido cabanas (by the pool) $30 on port days, $50 on sea days

The tented cabanas are furnished with modern woven chaises, ottomans and upholstered setees, and all come stocked with bathrobes and plush towels, handheld fans, an Evian spray mister and iPods preloaded with a good selection of music. Chilled waters are available and special snacks are brought by at appointed times of day: iced fruit skewers in mid-morning, frozen grapes, chocolate strawberries and a glass of champagne in the afternoon.

The Retreat, on a secluded spot on the Observation deck overlooking the pool, includes 14 cabanas and a spa-like private area in the center (the cabanas are all around, looking outward). Fresh fruit, salads, wraps and juices are available at the Retreat, with light breakfastr options offered as well.

There are eight cabanas on the Lido, which are served by the nearby Terrace Grill or the Lido casual restaurant.
