Chicago -- June 12, 2008 -- United Airlines today announced plans to charge passengers $15 for one checked bag, in addition to a previously-announced charge of $25 for a second bag.

The new fee will apply to people traveling on or after August 18 who book their tickets from tomorrow onward. Flight that have already been purchased are exempt.

Travelers who book full-fare economy, business or first-class tickets are exempt, as are premium-tier members of United's frequent flyer program, and those flying internationally.
