Why Lug Your Luggage? Windstar Offers Valet Service Direct from Home

SEATTLE, June 13, 2008 -- Hate transporting your bags to and from the ship? New airline security and fees have only added to the hassle. Windstar today announced an intriguing, if expensive, alternative.

Windstar's "Monogram Luggage Valet Service" picks up the luggage from your home and ensures it is delivered to your stateroom. On the way back, the bags are picked up from your stateroom and shipped to your home.

The service, offered in partnership with Houston-based Luggage Express, LLC, essentially ships your luggage via traditional cargo carriers; either air or surface depending on the timeframe (and price) you choose.

The convenience is substantial, but not cheap. The prices vary by the size of the luggage and whether you need the items shipped overnight, or can wait up to three days. CruiseSavvy obtained the following quotes to ship a medium-sized bag (30x23x11, up to 40lbs):

  • From San Francisco to Miami, $164 each way via three-day Economy, $311.59 each way via Overnight Express
  • From San Francisco to London, $352.38 each way via Economy, $417.04 via Prioirty

These quotes are from Luggage Express, and may differ slightly from arrangements made through Windstar.
