Company information

Holland America Line was founded in 1873 as the Netherlands-America Steamship Company (NASM), a shipping and passenger line. Because the company provided service between Holland and the Americas, it became known as Holland America Line.

Holland America Line has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Carnival Corporation since 1989, but like all Carnival Corp brands including Cunard, Seabourn and Princess, HAL is run largely independently.
